After spending 45 minutes with me, evaluating our sprinkler system, he said that I didn't need his help, that things were covering 90% of the yard and should be good for another year or more. He replaced two tiny sprinkler heads to give me more coverage, charged me $50 for the drive and the work and left. Comments: I'd used Nice Yard to clean up my backyard last year so I got a quote that included a $100 credit for seniors and signed it as the contract for work to be done the following week. As soon as their representatives left I noticed that the quote included using herbicides over the entire backyard instead of just the narrow strip of property along the south side of the garage. I called their main number and explained the issue. She agreed that this change would reduce the cost from the amount on the contract I'd just signed.When the crew arrived on the scheduled day I walked the yard with the foreman showing him the invasives that had grown very large and needed to be cut off with the remaining stumps treated with Round Up to keep them from putting up new shoots. There was a lot of details to go over with him and when we were done he met with the Hispanic crew leader to pass on those details. It was a two day job with clean up and hauling away the debris the first day and spreading bark dust on the second day.
At the end of the first day I met with the Hispanic crew leader and pointed out all the invasives had not been cut off with Round Up applied or the narrow strip along the side of the house dug down by two inches, Round Up applied and ground cover fabric put down to keep weeds from regrowing.
Once the foreman left and the clean up got underway it seemed to be going well but at the end of the day I met with the crew leader and showed him that none of the details I'd specifically identified had been carried out. It was obvious he didn't understand what I was saying so after the crew left I called Nice Yard's main number and explained the problems I was having conveying my instructions. The dispatcher was understanding but didn't offer any assistance.
At the end of the second day and the bark dust had been spread and the crew was leaving the crew leader asked for a check for the remainder of the contract since I'd only paid 10% when I signed it. I was tired and didn't think it through before I wrote a check and handed it to him. A few hours later it suddenly occurred to me that I'd written the cheek for the balance of the original contract without any of the changes I had requested and were carried out when the work was performed. I called their number and explained that I had overpaid for the work that was done when I should have requested a revised quote/contract and once I was certain it was accurate, then paid it but I didn't. Since then I've called Nice Yards six times and after leaving messages the first few times I called they are no longer even answered my calls.
It's apparent I'm not going to recover the amount I overpaid but I'm not going to take it laying down either. I'm going to contact the state Attorney General's office to file a complaint as well as writing reviews like this one to let people researching this business know how I've been treated.
When things go wrong a business should step up and move to make it right but Nice Yard has chosen to ignore me.
