Work Description: Needed a new cellar door that opens up from the porch floor as well as repair a portion of the the porch railing and post.
Comments: He quoted one price ($400)in the beginning, which he changed drastically . Suddenly, the hardware (hinges and such) were not included in the job. He needed more money for the hardware and the paint. Depending on the kind of paint, it could cost $15 or $20. Underneath the door, was painted with only one light coat. You could still see the color of the wood through the streaks. So on top of the $400 + $34 (tax), he now wanted $80 instead of the $29 which does not include what I already paid him for the original job. Also, the door did not prevent the elements from getting inside. The old door had rubber flaps. The new door didn't. He didn't bother to ensure there weren't any leaks. The man actually does good work "to an extent," but he should agree on a set price and not change it at will as the job progresses. Even at the end, when he came to pick up the rest of his money, he told me not to worry about the $4 and just pay him $80. I went inside and came back with my checkbook and he said to write it out for $84.50. I hope it was worth it for him.-
