Work Description: VLP/Tile and Carpet

Comments: I usually never write reviews, but my experience with Indy Floor Source needs to be shared to hopefully save others out there from a horrible situation. My husband & I just recently used Rick Kolic with Indy Floor Source to do new flooring in our entire home. We did all new vinyl plank downstairs and new bathroom tiles and new carpet upstairs. Rick initially came to our home to give us an estimate and we let him know what styles of flooring we wanted after he showed us some samples. He forgot to bring bathroom tile samples, and we were not able to see those for several days and it altered the quote. We had received a quote from another company, and we were trying to show Rick the flooring we liked through that other company and he refused to even look up from his phone to see what we liked and were hoping to have installed by his staff. After we took time to decide on the styles we wanted, we confirmed with him what tile we wanted, what carpet we wanted, and what vinyl plank we wanted via texts, calls, and emails. He called my husband two days before the flooring installation date to let us know that he forgot to order any of our new flooring, and he was wanting to just rip out all of the flooring on that Monday (the day he was supposed to install vinyl) and then install the vinyl and tile on Tuesday. That was frustrating because that made it an extra day he would be in our house working. He was very insistent that we change it to do demolition that Monday and install on Tuesday for vinyl and tile. He said it would make it easier to rip up one day and install the next, but when we confirmed the plan and flooring initially, he had said he would be able to rip up and install vinyl and tile in one day and rip up and install new carpet the second day. He last minute changes plans based on what is best for him, and doesn’t exactly check with the customer to see what works best for you and your schedule. Definitely not customer-oriented.

The Monday when he ripped up the old floors, he had said he would be there at 8:30 am. My husband and I rescheduled appointments and I was up very early despite having to work that night 11a-11p as an ER nurse. After 9:30 rolled around and we heard nothing from Rick and he never showed up, my husband called him. Rick said that he figured since he was only demolishing the old vinyl and tile, that he could just show up later, and gave us a time of 11a-1pm and he decided to go to a different job that morning. This was incredibly frustrating because not even 24 hours prior, we had confirmed the time of 8:30 am and Rick never even communicated with us that he was changing the plan. I had gotten up very early to take my dogs to my parents’ house so they weren’t in the way of the flooring installers and I had to work that night like I said, and so I lost sleep for no reason since he didn’t even show up when he was supposed to and it made my day a lot harder. We had told Rick that I work 11-11 and would prefer his crew to come mid-morning, around 9-9:30, but he was absolutely insistent that he needed to be there at 8:30 and gave me a hard time about wanting an extra hour in the morning, but then decided on his own to make it around 1pm without speaking to us.

It took them a few hours to rip up old floor that Monday, and then the day they installed the vinyl and tile Rick said it wouldn’t take close to 6 hours since the old floor was already ripped up but they got here at 9am and weren’t done until 6pm. I had to work the night that the floor was installed, so I did not see it until I got home. My husband and I realized that Rick had ordered and installed the wrong vinyl flooring into our home. We also realized that his crew caused several nicks in our walls with paint and also made a 4-inch scratch in our coffee table and they tore up one of our cups to use to catch water leakage from when they ripped the toilets up to do the bathroom tiles. They also left an incredibly awful mess for my husband to clean up while I was at work. We understand that accidents can happen, such as nicks in walls when moving furniture, but neither Rick nor his staff owned up to any of this. For about one week, we have attempted to get in touch with Rick to let him know that his vinyl and tile crew were very disrespectful of our home and our belongings and that he ordered and installed the wrong floor. He never called or emailed back. Sunday, the day before carpet was supposed to be installed, my husband called him again and he finally picked up and confirmed the time of 9-9:30 for the next day for carpet. He acted as if the wrong floor being installed was not his problem and he didn’t care about us being upset with the service at all. We let him know that his vinyl and tile people damaged things in our house and he said he would be there Monday during carpet installation to see the issues and discuss discounting our total price. However, carpet was installed today, and Rick never called us or visited us to discuss anything. I’m assuming Rick is just going to continue to ignore our calls and emails and never settle a discount agreement with us because of his mistakes with our project. Also, when the carpet installers came, they had to come an hour later than planned because Rick AGAIN forgot to order flooring. They didn’t have carpet pads earlier that morning when they were supposed to be there, because Rick forgot to order it.

We chose to use Indy Floor Source because one of our close friends/neighbors used Rick and had a great experience and their floor is very nice, and he has great prices. We were so excited to use him initially but that quickly went away. Given all of the above, I would absolutely NEVER recommend using him. He is completely unprofessional, disrespectful of your time and schedule, and never puts the customer first. He doesn’t communicate anything with you throughout the entire process, and when he does communicate he is not personable whatsoever. He has no follow-through or any sense of professionalism. His vinyl/tile crew were messy and disrespectful of our home and stacked our furniture in manners that caused damage and could have done more harm if we hadn’t moved it ourselves. The carpet guys were very nice though. The carpet guys were actually the only thing in this process that wasn’t horrible. They were nice and very professional and got the job done, although it did take a lot longer since Rick screwed up again and wasted their time by not ordering everything they needed to do our floor that morning. The carpet crew did do a beautiful job on the floor upstairs and they were very nice guys.

Indy Floor Source has great prices which is why we stuck with him, but there are other places with comparable prices as well who have staff and managers who are a lot more professional, not rude, and not disrespectful of your home, time, or belongings. Throughout this project, Rick has just seemed too busy or preoccupied, as though he has too many projects going on or something else going on to where he can’t manage his business the way it should be. Working with Rick has been a nightmare. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with the first company who wanted a lot more money so I could have peace of mind knowing I’m working with a professional who cares about his product and values customers and their expectations. If you’re on the market for flooring, make sure to go with someone else if you want to avoid a ton of stress and frustration on top of an already stressful project and make sure you get what you actually wanted.
I'm sorry you fell this way. I did forget to order flooring and called days in advance to let you know there was a mistake and asked if you would like to re-schedule. You did not and we did the entire home, 2 levels of moving furniture, demolition of old materials and install in 3 days, like we said we would. We did demolition in 1 day, install floor in 1 day and carpet in 1 day. I / we know how to schedule and do installs and can't let the homeowner "GC" the project or run it the way they think it should go, such as painting after flooring or having floor installed more than 2 weeks after paint, so the paint is fully cured and dried. Thank you for your comments and business
