Review Me

Overall

Work Description: Driveway

Comments: If I could save anyone from being cheated out of a quality job then I know this review was worth. Do not hire Eva for any work whatsoever. He poured our driveway and cut corners by not using dobies, by using an experienced crew, as well as not putting in the proper amount of joints among other things. My driveway cracked within a month and now we have a big crack that is right down the center of our porch. The most noticeable area when entering or exiting our home. He left trash everywhere and when I tried to contact him, he ignored us and even blocked us. All we wanted was for him to make it right but he knows he can’t. He is a scam artist so please avoids this guy. One star was being generous but I couldn’t post until I chose a star.

Work Description: Concrete - Sawing or Removal, and pour new concrete for 2/3 of garage.

Comments: Did he do my concrete? Yes, rough broom finish. Would I hire him again? No. Project involved 200 ft of concrete removal plus re-pouring, 3.5 to 4 inch, 18" square re-bars. Work and material bid was $3,000, i.e., $15 a square ft. Market price, though bargained down from over-price quote of $5,000.
2.25 yards of concrete costs $320. Concrete company asked if he wanted 5 sacks or 6 sacks of cement per yard. He asked for 6, nice of him to make the floor stronger. I paid the $20 extra since he put his good foot forward. I was not there but I told my daughter not to let him start without a contract and workman's comp insurance. My daughter did not know better and allowed him to work.
He is not licensed. He is not insured. If his employees get injured you pay.
He had no plan to put in a 15 mil moisture barrier on the bottom. When I requested he would only place a cheap 6 mil, $14, recycled plastic lining which was no longer advisable. I paid $85 extra to order and bought it.
Re-bars should be 1/3 way up. Mine are low close to the bottom. His worker kept pulling them up but they would sank back low.
He did not place expansion material at the edges against the concrete foundation. Any significant expansion would run into my foundation and destroy it.
He did not place expansion/contraction joints per code. They should be done within 4 to 12 hours. I had to bug him repeatedly, and threatened him. He said the contract was to pour concrete and he did already. He finally saw two joint lines with a handheld rotary saw, more than 2 wks later, with uneven depth. Code called for at least 1/4 the thickness. I paid him another $100.
Extra money was not an issue. He is a nice guy, but the work he does is simply not professional to the point that you pay and get the code abiding finish. 5 stars to me mean best practice approach, a job well done. 4 star is good job per code. Three means not acceptable and mediocre. He would have failed an officially inspection by any building department.
I am being very lenient and polite when I assign these stars.

Work Description: Concrete Sidewalk

Comments: So disappointing. Simple sidewalk concrete project. They poured unevenly, didn't maintain any edges, and failed to properly tape off the area while it dried (they didn't even have caution tape!). Of course someone walked on the fresh concrete and now there are footprints. They said they would come back to fix it and never did. Difficult to communicate, so I am now moving onto a new contractor to redo the entire project.

Comments: Contractor left a horrible mess. Their proposal stated they will clean up after themselves. Well they did NOT. Had to use my own crew to clean Eva Concrete's mess, and had to back charge them.
