Comments: Wish we had been forewarned of the devious business practice of Stanley Swindle and that of his bookkeeping. My family is out over $55,000 and our project delay turned into a year. As in the complaints posted here before ours, there will be a business response posted with no merit behind it whatsoever...I won't respond. It's my fault really, I bought into it. The façade of a Christian based practice complete with a cross on the wall and a prayer to kick off the contract. As soon has he drove off our property with the check we didn't hear/see him again for almost 3 months. While I could post a timeline of events & facts (bottom lining here) this what you must know: He robs peter to pay paul. Our stream of checks funded other projects until IN THE END, WE PAID Elegant Homes 95% OF OUR TOTAL PROJECT/CONTRACT AND YET ONLY 58% HAD BEEN COMPLETED. He double charges, pads the work hours, only comes onsite to pick up payment and beware of his wink and saying it will cost you a six pack of dr. pepper...that actually cost us an additional $4,700! His reputation precedes him as now we learn most building material companies and contractors in the area refuse to do business with him and are aware of the trail he leaves behind. His lies and deceit will haunt our family both financially and spiritually...beware this doesn't happen to you. 5 one-star reviews from BBB here: https://www.bbb.org/us/tx/kerrville/profile/construction-services/elegant-homes-of-texas-0825-1000113342
What Ms. Allen does not include in her report is the fact that she made numerous changes in the project that included costs that were not in the original contract and were paid for out of the funds she and her husband gave me to start the contract. She and her husband made several changes with a foundation sub-contractor that I paid out of the funds that were given to me, and her husband in his attempt to assist the sub, during the concrete pour caused the destruction of some of the concrete forms that amounted to over $1250.00 in materials and labor which were paid out of the funds. Also what she fails to mention is that we had completed the project up to and including the dry-in stage (which is considerably over 58%) at which point her husband and she were to complete the interior (sheetrock, painting, fixtures, Interior trim & etc.) themselves. Thus the reason for extended time for the completion. Yes I did confess my beliefs as a Christian and running a Christian based company. Which I profess today as well. I did this after Ms. Allen shared her faith at the execution of our agreement. As far as not showing up for 3 months after receiving payment, how can she state that as being true when they were living in San Antonio at the time which was over 80 miles away from the project. I had to be on the job to give instructions to my Job Superintendent and lay out the work. In addition I was drawing plans for the project. Also at the time we were suppose to receive final payment for our work at our office Ms. Allen stormed out and refused to pay the final payment of approximately $3,000.00. So all in all we lost money on this job and I learned a lesson which we now incorporate in our contracts. We will make changes that do not incur extra cost upon request, but if we are requested to make a change that involves an extra cost we will only do so upon the execution of a signed change order by both parties which becomes part of the original Contract. And all I can say about your insinuations of me being a Liar is "it takes one to know one."
