Work Description: Remodeling addition
Comments: I hired D-Sea Construction (currently MG Construction II, owned by Leroy Kelvin Swinton, to complete an addition to my home. My experience has been far from positive. After paying for the project, the work was left incomplete, leaving my house in disarray.I pursued legal action and was fortunate enough to win my case in court. However, I am now facing difficulties in collecting the awarded amount, as Mr. Swinton has been avoiding the subpoena.
Additionally, I have found that he has shut down one company only to start another, which raises concerns about his business practices. I strongly advise anyone considering hiring MG Construction II or dealing with Leroy Kelvin Swinton and Donna Thomas to proceed with caution. It’s essential to thoroughly research any contractor before making a commitment to avoid similar issues.
UPDATE
Feedback on response from MG construction-
While I recognize that MG Construction II has worked to maintain a positive reputation with many customers, my experience was unfortunately very negative. It's crucial for potential clients to understand all aspects of working with this company, which is why I feel compelled to share my perspective.
I want to emphasize that my feedback is not rooted in any personal vendetta. Rather, it's essential to focus on the core issues I encountered. My goal is simply to inform others about the challenges I faced, so they can make fully informed decisions.

Work Description: Retaining wall repair/rebuild
Comments: The team did an excellent job of repairing damage to my 50+ year old retaining wall caused by fence post installations along the top of the wall. Many of the adjoining blocks were cracking and becoming weak, so the crew pulled out and replaced all of the failing blocks in addition to the blocks damaged by the posts. The entire job was completed in less than one day and the post work cleanup was immaculate. Highly recommend MG Construction II. I will be seeking quotes for additional work in the future.Washington DC

They have my recommendation.Richard.

Work Description: Major renovation
Comments: Used this company for a major renovation to complete a two story addition. Structural work and a couple other things were done correctly, but there were a lot of issues with project completion. The owner Kelvin Swinton, to his own admission, doesn’t know the construction side of the trade and depends on the knowledge of his workers and subcontractors. There was no one to manage my project or supervise his workers day to day and to ensure quality control. We had the responsibility of micromanaging our project and bringing issues to his attention. When given a task he would say he was on top of it, but wasn’t.. left things until the last minute or just didn’t follow up at all. He usually got things wrong or forgot things even though I gave him detailed information via phone, in person, email and text which lead to things being missed or having to be corrected.Well into our project, my husband (licensed contractor) realized that based on the mistakes and short cuts he was seeing that he had to take over certain tasks to make sure our house was completed correctly. This meant paying additional money to complete tasks that were already paid for in our contract. For example, we paid for architectural plan changes in the beginning of the project (told we had to) that were never produced.
Missed all deadlines and in the end left work undone and damage that we are still fixing (backed up plumbing - entire house, damaged brand new windows and patio door framing due to scaffolding and throwing construction trash out the windows, had to install our own soffit, fascia boards and gutters on rear, sloppy HVAC work, missing vent covers (not one was put in the addition), missing light switch plates and outlet covers, some walls that still need to be patched due to dents and chips, new build walls not plumb, door and window moldings that look 10 years old (chips, dents, paint drips; just sloppy finishing), never finished stairwell (just assumed we would), and scratched deck boards (said he would replace-never did). Never did a final walk through of the house with us. The entire experience was stressful, exhausting and expensive. He made alot of promises and told us the job would be easy because it's nothing compared to what they usually do. In the end the finished product didn't live up to the hype.

Comments: Great jobWashington DC
Work Description: Bedroom addition
Comments: After reading all the nice comments about D-Sea Construction, I met with Mr. Swinton. The price we agreed upon was excellent. He told me this project would take two weeks. I figured it would take about six weeks. After many problems with contractors not showing up and not working full days, it took five months and it is still not complete. Mr. Swinton continuously told me that he didn't charge me enough, so my project basically had to wait. He never saw the work that has been done. I have sent him several emails and talked with him requesting screens for the windows, the air conditioner to be placed in the window. I had high expections that this long thought about project would not be a nightmare.Washington DC

Work Description: General repairs and painting
Comments: I heard from D-Sea soon after I contacted them and Kelvin Swinton, owner, came by soon after to scope the project. Soon thereafter I received his very detailed estimate and we agreed on items to meet my budget and work needs of $3,000 for general repair work on my old house. Not only did Kelvin keep me apprised every step of the way, he also came on site at least once a day over the 5 or so days of the project to check on his workers, make sure things were going well and that I was satisfied. When there were unexpected glitches in the work, he took them in stride and never once tried to charge more or reduce the work scope. I am very detailed oriented and he made sure the many items that were done were to my satisfaction.
For example, one of the items was to fix a broken window shade. When they saw it wasn't fixable, they went to try to find one to fit at the big box store but the size wasn't standard. Kelvin then said they come back and install the one I've had to custom order (along with another one not in project scope) at no additional charge when the orders come in. He also used Benjamin Moore paint at my request, and lots of it, when my front porch project ended up being more work than could have been anticipated.
I had received several estimates before selecting D-Sea and I'm very glad I did. Not only is the work excellent, but the company and Kelvin are honest, reliable and a pleasure to work with. I'm already planning more projects with them as my budget permits. It's good to know I have this company to call upon going forward and I won't hesitate to do that.
Great company, great work, great people!

Work Description: Stairs replaced/repaired.
Comments: This is a follow-up review. What I thought to be quality work turned out to be horrible. In December 2013 this company repaired/replaced stairs in my home. I wrote a good review. However, in January 2014, the repairs began to fall apart. Twice I spoke with Mr. Swinton and made an appointment for him to come and make repairs. He did not show for either appointment. He also did not call. Telephone calls go unanswered. I sent a registered letter which has been refused twice. Whatever you do, do not hire this company. Mr. Swinton will make promises that he seems to have no intention of keeping and the work is horrible.Washington DC
Work Description: Repaired one side of the wooden closet door. And we had to call them back to fixed the plaster chip in the door that they had knocked off.
Comments: This company needs to be more punctual and above all they need to communicate more, especially when they are late, late. And when they tell you that they will be there and don't come when expected and then they don't even call, email or whatever that is very, very bad.I say this for them to improve their bus. operations

Some additional work was recommended to properly install backsplash and they replaced part of the kitchen wall in an excellent manner. They worked with the situation we had to enable the kitchen appliances to be removed and replaced. Coordination of elements of work was not as good as it should have been; need more attention to project management.Washington DC
