Work Description: Total Bathroom Renovation

Comments: if I could give Handy and his business 0 stars I would. a job done 2 years ago which was the most frustrating and unprofessional job ive ever experienced- has now left me having to re do my entire shower over. the contractors handy hired improperly installed my shower system, causing my 1st floor bedroom to leak. it was concluded that the shower needed to be demo'd and redone. I have went back and forth about reaching out to Handy to fix this issue but giving it's been 2 years and I don't want the man in my house, I've decided to just take the loss. do not hire him! he is unprofessional and he doesn't pay his contractors (probably the reason they end up doing a poor job). he had no less than 20 men in and out of my home because contractors would quit midway through the job since he wasn't paying them. he would then find a local contractor on the road and bring them to my home to complete the work! over 20k completely wasted!
Dear Eric Thank you for sharing your concerns. While this project was completed over two years ago and is beyond the warranty period, we take every client issue seriously and are actively working offline to address this matter. It’s important to note that we were not notified of the defect when it first occurred. Prompt communication is essential in situations like this, as it allows us to intervene early and prevent further complications. Nevertheless, when we became aware of the issue, we immediately and politely reached out to offer assistance. Our team remains committed to ensuring a resolution and maintaining the trust of our clients and community. We are happy to address them directly. Please feel free to contact us at direclty via email Thank you for your feedback, which helps us continue to grow and improve.

Work Description: Commercial Project on Long Island in New York

Comments: DO NOT HIRE HANDY LUIGI AND ANY OF HIS COMPANIES (BUY & FIX HOME IMPROVEMENT LLC; LUIGI & ASSOCIATES). RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN THE OTHER WAY…

We hired Handy Luigi through Buy & Fix Home Improvement LLC, and the project was poorly managed from the start. Plumbing delays also caused inspection failures and several missed deadlines. This led to major delays in our business's Grand Opening.

On the financial side, even though we paid Handy 100% of the contract, subcontractors were left unpaid, and we’re faced with demands from contractors for $17,000, which prevents us from closing the project with the Landlord and other key stakeholders. As a result, we can't access critical funds needed to operate our business.

In addition, Handy's communication is terrible, which is worse when you add that to his arrogance. Handy and Buy & Fix Home Improvement never provided the underwriters’ certificate we needed to obtain the CO for the project, and he never provided the lien waivers required even after he had been fully paid for the contract.

I would strongly advise against hiring Handy and any company he’s associated with, including Luigi & Associates. He’ll say he’s a MAN OF GOD but do not be fooled. He’s a liar and a crook. He is a fraud in every sense of the word.

Work Description: Renovation

Comments: Unprofessional and incomplete work, harassment, gender discrimination, threats, and financial exploitation.

I hired Buy & Fix Home Improvement, LLC (Handy Luigi) in March 2024 to renovate my home. Work began in late April. Mr. Luigi began by demolishing my home, rendering it uninhabitable. However, the project quickly went awry.

Incomplete Demolition: The demolition was incomplete and caused structural damage to my home, resulting in a significant leak throughout my kitchen wall. Left walls exposed in almost every room which affected the safety of my children.
Negligence: Mr. Luigi's work resulted in water damage, structural damage, and electrical damage. His solution of simply placing a tarp over the leak after the damage was done was insufficient.

Improper prioritization: Mr. Luigi prioritized work on my deck over the essential repairs needed inside the home.
Unprofessional Conduct: Mr. Luigi exhibited unprofessional behavior throughout the project. He repeatedly appeared at my house unannounced, made inappropriate references to me as a "friend," and threatened me with negative consequences if I left a negative review online. This behavior escalated to threats to my safety on June 4th, 2024 via text message from Mr. Luigi.

Financial Exploitation: Despite taking a $2,500 deposit and $14,996 for the project, Mr. Luigi only completed $4,511.53 worth of work agreed upon in the initial scope. He also completed $8,700 of additional work due to unforeseen damages, leaving the project significantly unfinished. After terminating his services on May 4th, he refused to refund the remaining balance of $4,284.47.
Attempts to Resolve the Issue:

I terminated Mr. Luigi's services on May 4th, 2024.
I documented the incomplete and damaged work with photos.
I have obtained an estimate from another contractor to complete the project and signed a Hold Harmless agreement.
I left a factual review of my experience on a review site, exercising my First Amendment right. Mr. Luigi retaliated by threatening to sue me.

UPDATE 6/18/24
I’m writing this review to encourage others to thoroughly research before hiring contractors. My experience with this contractor and the owner was very unpleasant. After sharing my experience on other sites, I received legal threats. I am now sharing MY experience here to assert my right to do so. As a single mother of two—one in college and one with special needs—I was thrilled to finally purchase my first home after years of saving. I bought a little fixer-upper and was excited to make it my own. Initially, everything seemed to be going well. The contractor communicated effectively, and since I didn’t know much about contractors and repairs, I trusted him with my home and money. Unfortunately, I now feel duped and taken advantage of, left with $28,000 worth of unfinished work. He may claim he offered to finish the job, but would you let someone back into your home after they left it in such a horrible state? Despite the poor job, he refuses to refund my deposit and the money for the unfinished work. To make matters worse, he has threatened to sue me for defamation, alleging I cost him money by not letting him complete the work. The most disappointing part of this experience is the lack of accountability. He takes none. There is always an excuse or an answer. There has NEVER been an apology. Had there been accountability, it would not have gotten this far. Instead, he writes me an email with the bank threatening legal action. This is why I am putting MY experience in writing to hopefully help someone make smarter choices. To anyone reading this: Do your research first!
I feel obligated to answer this complaint in a thorough manner and with proper context in order to properly address the exaggerations, dangerous accusations and false claims made by Darlyne Milord and her family although I do understand part of their frustration with the situation at hand. Just yesterday someone called Kem, which I believe to be Darlyne’s sister, posted a review online accusing me of intentionally and maliciously damaging Darlyne’s property. Amongst other things the review also had strong and disrespectful personal opinions about me and my social media activity/presence while asking all readers to “stay away from me. I have been in business for 20 years and this is probably the 2nd complaint filed against me. I do not remember ever meeting Kem in person let alone understand why she would escalate a situation to which she is not one of the parties to. This is currently being handled by the 203k consultant who has asked me yesterday 06/03/24 to provide additional documentation to substantiate my final invoice. Darlyne’s closing date was pushed back numerous times due to delays, negligence and or oversight by her bank, their underwriters and other parties responsible to ensure that the loan is clear to close for Darlyne to purchase and move in. During those delays we continued to perform our obligations towards our other clients while making provisions to help Darlyne with a very specific and agreed upon scope of work once the time comes. When Darlyne finally moved into her property we helped her get her utilities (water and gas) turned back on and on that day we discovered that she had purchased a property that wasn’t winterized properly and it wasn’t disclosed by the seller or brought up by her inspector prior to the purchase and or closing … There was 15 different locations where copper pipes burst open leaking water into the property. We remediated the 15 leaks in order for Darlyne to move in and then proceeded to perform the agreed upon scope of work on her property. On April 24th, in the late evening hours I received several hostile phone calls and text messages from her sister and her real estate agent. I reached out to Darlyne to get an understanding as to why they were so agitated and confrontational and she apologized explaining that mother has crossed her boundaries and took it upon herself to escalate matters within the family and entourage hence the calls text and emails asking me about the sequence of work performed on the property. I was slightly tired and discouraged mainly because EVERY single meeting with Darlyne was about CHANGING the agreed upon scope of work, requesting new estimates and new ways to prioritize the funds that she borrowed from the bank. 2 times prior Darlyne requested estimates and floor plans that took me at least 4 hours each to produce in proper detail. The first time around her sister discouraged Darlyne from performing these changes on a 3 way video conference with me , the second time around Darlyne could not pull the additional financing to perform the scope of work requested, estimate and documented by floor plans I had to create All Meetings with Daryne were scheduled and ended well in terms of tone and all of them required additional estimates, change orders etc. It had always been apparent that she had a very hard time making up her mind and or list of priorities for this property resulting in numerous work hours and days lost on my end She breached our agreement on the very first day of work, hiring another contractor to refinish the hardwood floors that we were contracted to refinish and hired what seemed to be her father to paint the inside of the property. I decided to focus on the outside of the property at that point and set in motion a sequence of work that is in line with the required building inspections We rebuilt her back porch, called for an inspection on the footings of the porch did the rough framing on the back porch and then proceeded to do the rough plumbing and electrical inside because the very next city inspection was what we call the “rough inspection” when the city comes in to inspect the rough framing, rough electrical and rough plumbing done for the entire property at once. Darlyne interrupted us in that process and sent a letter of termination to which I at multiple times respectfully replied and expressed my interest in completing the work or at least completing the work that we started for warranty, liability and reputation purposes. We had no animosity or hard feelings towards Darlyne. Our finished work is always impeccable and we take great pride in it. Darlyne breached the contract at the very early onset of it, then terminated it right in the middle of it’s performance the proceeded with public accusations of malicious intent. The 203k consultant assessed that about $4200 was due back to Darline and we are in the process of documenting his oversights to adjust that number. We hope that these malicious reviews do not hinder us from continuing to work here. This is my livelihood which I take very seriously. I have a track record of 20 years of experience as a minister in my local church, 12 years of experience as a successful financial advisor, kids to raise and so I strive for excellence and improvement everyday. I was stopped dead on my tracks while performing for Darline and her family, the accusations of a malicious “demolition” are in fact the proper sequence of work. A complaint of unprofessional and incomplete work would stand if I had quit in the process, accusations of harassment and discrimination are unsubstantiated, my only threat was a promise to seek legal counsel and the fair numbers will be thoroughly discussed with the Hud consultant. Just today around 4pm I received a phone call from Darlynes mother asking for leniency for the review posted by Kem. Again I hope these false public accusations and disrespectful statements do not in fact materially impact me, my business, my family or employees. A resolve will soon be on the table

Work Description: Finishing Basmenet

Comments: We were extremely disappointed with Handy Luigi and hiring him to finish our basement. He has been unresponsive and once he was paid in full almost all communication was stopped. The work is now 2.5 months past the estimated completion date. We've tried all forms of communicating directly with Handy and asking for the work to be completed. We were never told the work was going beyond the completion date--we've since had to post-pone and cancel several family visits. We've shared all of this directly with Handy with crickets for a response. It's now been weeks since any work was completed. It's our first experience with a contractor abandoning the job. We're now stuck with hiring someone else to correct and complete the work as well as attorney fees to try and get refunded. I would not recommend Buy & Fix Home Improvement or any work done by Handy Luigi unless you enjoy never hearing back from someone and being stuck with unfinished work.
We apologize to Alexis and her husband for the delays experienced during this project and have resolved all outstanding issu.es. Communications did slow down at some point as we were working on a resolve however no outside contractor or attorney was required to bring this to completion.
