Work Description: Cleaned out and removed old shrubs from all flower beds. Mulched and placed landscape bricks around flowerbeds and built raised beds around 2 trees using landscape brick and capstones. Filled areas around both trees with dirt and mulch
Comments: B&E came within 24 hrs of calling to provide a free estimate. Bryan listened to my vision for what I wanted. I showed him picture of how I wanted the raised beds to look. We chose our bricks , and were paying for our own materials, so he told us how many landscape brick we would need to complete the entire project, as well as the number of capstones , and how many tubes of glue we would need for raised beds around trees. He quoted a price for labor that we felt was very reasonable. We signed a contract with B&E to complete the work. We gave Bryan a deposit. We offered cash, he preferred a check, so we wrote a personal check.We purchased all materials that same night, and Bryan picked them up the next morning from Home Depot . His crew came and went to work. It was a two day job, and we were extremely pleased with the quality of work and were receiving compliments from our neighbors right away!
The one thing that I must say, is that the estimate for materials was seriously off. Bryan said it was because he thought we were using smaller brick, despite us giving him the measurements of the brick we had chosen at the time of his estivate. We had to purchase 178 additional bricks , 73 additional capstones, and 26 additional tubes of glue than we were originally told we needed to complete the project.
We actually purchased a few extra bricks the first time just to allow for breakage, etc.
I can understand if your estimate for amount of materials needed is off by a little, but certainly not to the extreme that this estimate was off! We made several trips back and forth to order/pay for additional materials. We had to ask for a copy of the contract we signed, and I still, despite 3 requests, have not received a copy of an invoice or contract marked paid in full.
Additionally, Bryan came back the first day and said his bank would not honor our check, ( not possible), and asked for cash deposit instead. We paid cash deposit, and paid the balance in cash on completion of work.
My overall opinion is, that I am extremely pleased with the quality of work that Bryan’s crew completed!
However, I am less than pleased with Bryan’s business acumen.
I would recommend B&E to friends for landscaping needs, but with the caveat that they get someone else to estimate the amount of materials needed.
We ended up with 20 extra brick, 0 capstones, and 13 extra tubes of glue!
