WHAT MY NETWORX CONTRACTOR DID FOR ME: Repaired the roof of my house and installed new roofs on 2 sheds.
WHY I CHOSE HIM: Years of experience, old-fashioned work ethic, and dramatically cheaper price.
I didn’t really have a choice. The roof was leaking and needed to be fixed. It just took me a long time to act; the roof repair should have been done earlier than it was.
When I started to look for a roofer, though, I actually had a hard time finding somebody who did roof repairs. Everybody wants to put on a new roof, but a lot of companies don’t want to do the smaller jobs. So I did a google search for roof repairs, which is how I stumbled across Networx. To be honest, when I filled in the Networx form, I didn’t realize that the service was basically a clearinghouse for contractors. It worked out great for me, though, because I ended up getting a number of responses.
I got at least 3 quotes. The company that I eventually hired, Heritage Homes Development Corp., was dramatically cheaper. The owner struck me as an old-fashioned handyman who had a lot of experience and worked for rock-bottom prices. So that was the way I went.
It took him 2 days altogether to do the work, including a pretty small repair of the main asphalt shingle roof and 2 new shed roof installations. The only thing that was modestly disappointing was that I had wanted to match the shed roofs to the existing roof and I’m not sure he got the color exactly right. It’s not critical, however, and I shouldn’t blame him. It was more me; I probably should have slowed down and said, “I want to see samples first.”
Aside from that, he stood out in terms of reasonable price and also how hard he works. I think that he puts the customer’s interests first. He didn’t try to sell me on a bunch of additional things that my roof didn’t need. My goal was to extend the life of my roof maybe 3 or 4 years And he agreed and just did the minor repairs that I needed to get that extra life. My roof is as old as the house, which is about 22 years old, so in about 3 years we might be looking at replacing the roof, but for a $180 repair, I don’t have to do it this year.
I would absolutely recommend the Networx service. I was very impressed -- I thought it was great to receive multiple estimates in a relatively short time span, from people who were happy with the scope of the job that I was laying out and eager to do the work. In addition, I was able to look at evaluations for those contractors online too, so that was great. All in all, I was happy with the experience.
